- October 29, 2009 -- Newark Beth Israel Medical Center selects IGI to build Health Information Exchange for community Patients and Providers >>
|
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBI) announced the launch of its first comprehensive electronic health information exchange, which will offer a shared clinical data repository to its partner institutions, physicians, other care givers and patients. The solution offers a leading portal and interface engine. NBI has selected, New Jersey-based IGI to power the exchange by implementing the ORBIT® portal which provides a cost-efficient way to share clinical information both inside the hospital setting and with the community, external health information networks, state agencies and Medicaid. To build the internal and external interfaces, NBI has selected Intel's SOA Expressway for Healthcare. The combined solution is a collaboration between IGI and Intel that creates next generation solutions for hospitals and IDNs, and enables healthcare providers to securely exchange patient information at the point of care - key to providing better services and reducing integration costs.
"NBI faced a challenge to provide interoperability among key stakeholders, deliver a unified comprehensive patient record, and create a flexible and scalable platform that can meet our community's needs now and in the future," said Tom Gregario, CIO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. "The IGI-Intel solution offers an affordable, cost-effective and highly-valued solution that leverages our investment in our disparate legacy systems and positions us to be able to share valuable clinical information within the Newark community, thus creating an efficient health delivery system and reducing the cost of health within NBI and across the community and state agencies."
By implementing the Health Information Exchange, NBI will empower its healthcare community stakeholders by: giving clinicians in area hospitals and neighboring Federally Qualified Health Centers web-based access to an integrated patient information common look and feel among area facilities; and allowing clinical and administrative users of the system to collaborate. Additionally, NBI will serve its patient community by providing a patient-centric portal that aggregates complete patient demographics, encounters and clinical results into one common view. The initial offering of interoperable services includes building an interface to the NJ state immunization system, accessing NJ Medicaid medication histories, offering lab and radiology results in the emergency departments, implementing an electronic version of the Universal Transfer form and then sharing all of this same information with the 6 federally qualified health centers in the Newark area.
"As the healthcare industry looks to optimize interoperability amid steep budget cuts, we realize the critical need for hospitals and IDNs to extract meaningful clinical value from their HIE investments in months rather than years," said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI. "We are excited to partner with an industry leader such as NBI who is looking to leverage their existing technology investments without compromising on data exchange or communication. ORBIT® is an open architecture framework, which means that cost reduction begins at an early stage of implementation."
"This implementation is a showcase for how Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare's packaged standards implementation integration/translation capabilities can generate immediate ROI by reducing the number of system interfaces," said Girish Juneja, Director of SOA Products at Intel Corporation Software and Services Group. "By leveraging our modern SOA infrastructure, clinical portal providers like IGI are able to deliver rapid, affordable, high value, solutions to the Provider community."

- October 29, 2009 -- PIMA Health Systems selects IGI Health to power Unified Electronic data Interchange to facilitate claims processing >>
|
IGI announces PIMA Health Systems' selection of IGI Health to power a single, unified Electronic Data Interchange that will support medical, hospital and dental claims submission to PHS. This gateway will be powered by IGI Health's ORBIT®, a platform that allows health care stakeholders to reduce administrative costs, improve financial transparency, and enhance clinical information exchange. ORBIT® will replace over 20 different electronic submission systems that currently send claims to PHS. By streamlining submission through this single pathway, the goal is to reduce overhead costs and errors related to managing multiple connections.
The ORBIT® Electronic Data Interchange will accept non-standardized electronic claims from providers and institutions, and convert them into secure, HIPAA-compliant formats ORBIT will also route EDI transactions such as Electronic Remittance Advice files, to other trading partners and clearinghouses on behalf of PHS and create a provider portal through which small providers can efficiently submit claims to PHS, check patient eligibility, and receive electronic remittance data. Additionally, the ORBIT® solution is scalable and as PHS expands to serve an increasing number of providers in the area, ORBIT® will scale to help PHS meet the challenge. The county expects 200,000 medical claims to be filed, and 15,000 electronic remittance advice transactions to be submitted by over 5,000 providers annually.
"IGI's Health's ORBIT® is a proven one-stop solution that is poised to meet PIMA Health System's most critical requirement - to create a single, unified EDI - with the ability to adapt as we adapt to provide services to our health care community," says Mark Hart, PIMA Health System's Manager.
"We are excited that ORBIT® has been selected to bring electronic transactions to PIMA County," says Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI Health. "IGI Health is committed to bringing cutting-edge tools for revenue cycle management, and to facilitate PIMA Health System's goal to reduce administrative expenses by streamlining health care transactions across their system."

- August 1, 2009 - MedsFile to Integrate IGI ORBIT® Platform to Enhance PHR Interoperability Initiative >>
|
Atlanta-based MedsFile.com announced today that it will integrate the IGI ORBIT® platform to power their enhanced Personal Health Record. IGI's ORBIT® will enhance the ability for MedsFile subscribers to easily and securely exchange their medical information with their health care providers and other key stakeholders within their health care community, such as pharmacies, labs and health insurance plans. By participating in this new service, patients will empowered to: transport their PHR information anywhere and at anytime; control what information is shared and with whom; improve communication with physicians, pharmacists, care givers and loved ones; and make better, more informed health care decisions - before, during, and after the point of care.
MedsFile's Personal Health Record allows subscribers to enter vital personal health information, such as immunization and allergy information into a HIPAA compliant repository. The new integrated version utilizes the IGI ORBIT® platform to allow for portability and secure data exchange with other industry aggregated sources, such as immunization registries and claims data sources. Data exchange will follow federal guidelines for interoperability among other facilities and care providers. Registration for the online service is quick and easy and can occur in a matter of minutes with subscription costs around $9.99 to $14.99 a month for a typical plan. MedsFile's PHR can be accessed, added to, or printed from the Web anytime, anywhere.
MedsFile was founded in 2004 by CIO Mark Holland as a way for consumers to begin to take charge of collecting and managing their own personal and family health information as the medical community seeks out an agreement on a common method and platform for tracking and exchanging health information. "With the IGI ORBIT® integration, MedsFile's PHR can now act as that common platform," Holland says, "and an engine that powers smarter, better delivery of health care services initiated by both the patient and the practitioner. Consumers will be able to come to our site, grant permission for us to gather their medical data, and subsequently view their medical records online like a credit report. It's revolutionary."
"Providing the secure portability and interoperability of Personal Health Records is a top priority in the industry," said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI Health. "By integrating the power of IGI's ORBIT® platform, MedsFile will be able to offer premium interoperable service to their client base and IGI is proud to work with a team that is dedicated to improving the lives of patients."
About MedsFile
MedsFile aims to improve the overall health care community by providing access to and portability of a patient's electronic medical records; become the pre-eminent global facilitator of a patient's electronic medical records derived from multiple health care sources easily accessed by patients and patient-approved entities; and strive toward excellence, accuracy and the highest level of customer satisfaction by leveraging discipline, professionalism, integrity and innovative technology.

- June 1, 2009 -- Minnesota Health Plans Select IGI to Power First State-Mandated Shift to Electronic Data Exchange >>
|
Minnesota has become the first state in the nation to require all health care providers to electronically submit insurance claims to health plans, using a single set of data standards. The law, referred to as the E3 Initiative, will also require plans and providers to electronically exchange information about patients' eligibility for insurance coverage and benefits, as well as payment remittance advice. While other states have initiated efforts to streamline healthcare administration by implementing electronic infrastructure to parts of their legacy systems, Minnesota is the first to issue a statewide mandate, a move that could reduce costs by more than $60 million this year A study co-sponsored by health plans, physicians and hospitals showed that a single set of billing codes, for example, could reduce the cost of phone calls alone by $15.6 million to $21.8 million annually.
Minnesota's health plans have selected IGI to offer health care providers MN E-Connect (www.mneconnect.com), a web-based portal solution powered by IGI's ORBIT® software that will allow all health care stakeholders in Minnesota to seamlessly comply with the new provisions of the law. The web service, which opened for provider registration on May 15, 2009, is funded by Minnesota health plans at no cost to providers, and may be used by any provider, regardless of size. Specifically, MN E-Connect allows providers to file three free claims types - medical, hospital and dental - while rigorously maintaining HIPAA standards. Participating health plans include: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, FirstPlan of Minnesota, HealthPartners, Medica, Metropolitan Health Plan, PreferredOne, Sanford Health Plan and UCare.
"IGI presented a solution that met our most critical requirements: MN E-Connect is easy to use, even for providers who have limited technical resources - and can also meet the needs of rapidly changing offices, hospitals and payer systems," said Julie Brunner, executive director of the Minnesota Council of Health Plans. "The technology is straightforward, cost-effective and interoperable. Interoperability is key - health plans were already conducting electronic billing transactions - ORBIT® provides access to payer systems to all providers."
Minnesota's partnership with IGI compliments the state's other collaborative work in health care IT including e-prescribing, transportable patient health information, credentialing and the Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE), a statewide secure network that shares clinical and administrative information among health care providers.
"We're excited that Minnesota has chosen ORBIT® as the engine to fuel innovative health care reform," said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI. "This move positions Minnesota health care providers and health plans as leaders in streamlining back office operations, turning their vision for the electronic exchange of health information into reality." More information about the E3 Initiative can be found at http://www.health.state.mn.us/auc.

- April 7, 2009 - Meridian Health Pilots Electronic transfer form >>
|
HIMSS, Chicago, Apr. 7, 2009 - Infotech Global, Inc. (IGI) announced today that after months of planning and training, Meridian Health, a not-for-profit health system in Central New Jersey is piloting the electronic version of the draft Universal Transfer Form (UTF).
The draft UTF was tested with providers in five regions in its hard copy version in 2008. This work was made possible through the cooperative efforts of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), the Health Care Association of New Jersey and many other provider representatives, stakeholders, the Department of Health and Senior Services and Rutgers University.
While the paper pilot was occurring IGI, a New Jersey based information technology company, worked to create an electronic version of the tool. The search for a health system that had many provider types where the electronic UTF could be trialed led to Meridian.
NJHA and the other partners in this effort thank the nursing and management teams at Meridian's Riverview Medical Center and Riverview Rehabilitation Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Meridian at Home and Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers for the time and energy they dedicated to this project.
As the pilot moves forward, so too does the work with DHSS to develop the regulations that will govern the implementation of the UTF statewide for all providers licensed by DHSS. NJHA is working closely on this important aspect of the project.
In addition, NJHA will continue to work with the Health Care Association of New Jersey and other stakeholders to keep providers informed about the progress of this implementation, including education on how to use the form.

- April 21, 2008 - IGI becomes certified Independent Software Vendor (ISV) with Intel for its SOA Expressway software >>
|
See Intel's official press release below for more details: New Intel Software Connects Health Networks, Enabling Key Data Sharing in Clinical Settings 'Expressway' Software Will Help Healthcare Providers Reduce Integration and Interoperability Costs and Improve Care
WORLD HEALTH CARE CONGRESS, Washington, D.C., April 21, 2008 - Intel Corporation today announced Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare, software that provides an efficient way to exchange healthcare information inside hospitals and with health information networks. The product will allow healthcare providers to more easily connect with one another so that each can provide better care while benefiting from reduced integration costs.
Until now, the sharing of patient information among healthcare network participants has been hindered by the steep costs and complexities of proprietary data and integration services. Based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare offers a cost-efficient solution to this problem by providing an efficient and scaleable way to translate, process and connect any data format across a healthcare network.
In addition, Intel has created a group of validated independent software vendors (ISVs) that provides best-of-breed capabilities to deploy a complete health network powered by the Intel SOA Expressway. Current validated ecosystem vendors include Apelon, Infotech Global (IGI), Initiate Systems, Oracle and Red Hat. Services provided by these vendors include controlled medical vocabulary translation, clinical patient portal applications, enterprise master patient index, clinical data repository and operating system support. The validated ecosystem helps complete next-generation SOA architecture for healthcare data interoperability.
The software solution has been successfully piloted with several healthcare providers, including at a hospital network in Shanghai. "Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare solved a very difficult hospital integration scenario for us," said Shen Ping, general manager of Health Services Division at Wonders Information Co, the systems integrator deploying the Shanghai health network. "We were surprised to see that it was able to meet our performance requirements for daily synchronization of nearly a million hospital records in a short amount of time."
Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare provides the performance of a hardware appliance in a software form factor that offers native message acceleration for rapid data exchange, workflow management and translation to enable data exchange to and from any original format. This advance in software is an example of how technology can help improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs by streamlining information flow.
"Intel has developed the SOA Expressway for Healthcare as a platform that can be used with a wide variety of existing IT environments to provide world-class integration regardless of the specific electronic medical records and other software platforms used at individual healthcare facilities," said Renee James, vice president and general manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group. "We also leveraged the SOA architecture to drive down costs, which has enabled Intel to offer our solution at prices comparable or below other solutions in the market."
In order to make Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare as versatile as possible, Intel designed it as a flexible product offering that can stand alone as the gateway to and from a community health information network or can be bundled as part of an ISV solution.
Intel Software provides resources, technologies, products and services developers need to create innovative products and industry-leading software solutions designed to run best on Intel platforms.

- Transfirst® And Infotech Global, Inc Announce Partnership To Deliver Credit Card Processing Solutions To Physicians & Hospitals >>
|
- State-of-the-art
technology will enable physicians
and hospitals to process credit card
and ACH transactions via PMS integration
or Portal solutions. This technology
not only addresses the shift to private
pay revenue in the front office but
also post adjudication balances in
the back office -
DALLAS and SOMERSET (July
7, 2006) — TRANSFIRST
Health Services, Inc. a division of
TRANSFIRST HOLDINGS, INC., a leading
provider of credit card processing
services and payment enabling technologies,
and INFOTECH GLOBAL, INC., (“IGI”),
a premier service and solution provider
to the healthcare industry serving
physicians, hospitals, system vendors
and payers, today announced a partnership
that will provide IGI customers with
credit card and ACH processing capabilities.
The partnership will link the TRANSFIRST
payment processing system to IGI’s
vendor, provider and payer applications
improving efficiency and work flow
in provider offices replacing archaic
stand alone POS systems. The partnership
will vastly improve efficiency in
handling co-pay and post-adjudication
payment from patients. Staff in the
physician’s office will benefit
from system wide access so critical
in revenue cycle management in collecting
patient balances in a post adjudication
environment.
The new service combines TRANSFIRST’S
processing capabilities for credit
card and ACH, manual and automatic
recurring payments, and custom reports
with IGI’s custom solutions.
Delivering either full integration
or Portal solutions IGI will add TransFirst
credit card and ACH processing to
its acclaimed product suite. Physician
or Hospital staff will have access
to credit card and ACH payment processing
anywhere within their facility or
wherever access to the internet exists.
“At IGI we recognized the current
shift in healthcare transferring financial
responsibility from payers to patients
has resulted in a need to deliver
sophisticated system wide solutions
to maximize revenue. Providers historically
have focused the majority of their
solutions to collecting third party
payment. With private pay approaching
35% of a provider’s A/R a greater
focus has been placed on collecting
from the patient,” states Arthur
Kapoor, IGI Founder and CEO. “At
IGI market intelligence is our forte
enabling us to deliver solutions which
increase cash flow and reduce costs”.
Christy Corey, President for TRANSFIRST’S
Health Services division explains,
“Our partnership is an example
of two customer centric organizations
listening to the market and delivering
state of the art technology which
addresses the growing trend of private
pay. Stand-alone products although
useful fall short in efficiency in
the complex environment of a healthcare
practice. We envision the same migration
path for credit card as eligibility
has taken in provider offices. The
same inefficiencies that plagued POS
eligibility solutions exist with credit
card. Through the power of the Internet
and IP solutions or full integration
healthcare providers will realize
productivity and work flow gains.
Healthcare has been lagging in certain
segments of technology especially
in the aspect of payment processing.
Business owners in food or home improvement
industries can process payments from
consumers via a fully integrated system
yet the most advanced healthcare system
is the world still utilizes stand
alone systems. We believe our newly
formed partnership with IGI addresses
this situation.”
