HIPAA Tester

ScreenHow good are your HIPAA Transactions?
At IGI we believe that even though your Transaction Sets may be "HIPAA ready" they may not necessarily be HIPAA compliant. By HIPAA compliant we mean, transactions that have been tested and validated for quality, quantity and business needs.

We believe that your best bet in getting your transaction sets and your trading partners' "HIPAA Ready" is IGI's HIPAA Transaction Testing Tool (HT-3). HT-3 is an automated HIPAA Transaction Testing Tool. This proprietary automated tester ensures the integrity and effectiveness of your Transactions Sets. HT-3 conforms to the HIPAA Implementation Specifications as recommended by WEDI/SNIP

What is the HT-3?
The HT-3 is a testing tool that is capable of testing transactions for data content (generic HIPAA as well as trading partner specific implementation guides), data format, business rules and telecommunications. The HT-3 verifies that a company can actually send or receive HIPAA X12n compliant transactions as per the implementation guides from May 2000 and later. More specifically, HT-3 ensures the following:

Quality of transactions with respect to
EDI mapping
Efficient Transmission
  Data Dictionary, Codes Sets Utilization
  Impact on prior version
 Quantity of transactions pertaining to
Translation Performance
Testing before mass deployment

 Business Rules in terms of
Business/industry needs being met
End to End or Loop testing

 Parallel Processing
 Go live

Levels of Compliance Testing
In addition to Transaction Sets testing, the HT-3 can also evaluate your company's compliance efforts based on the different levels of testing as laid out by SNIP. Thus, HT-3 can be used for the following levels of compliance testing:

  1. Integrity Testing: At this level, the HT-3 ascertains the EDI syntax integrity with respect to valid segments, loops, elements and codes.
  2. Requirement Testing: In this case, the HT-3 checks the system for HIPAA Specification Requirements. This involves checking for repeating counts, code usage, situational data elements, etc.
  3. Balancing: HT-3 monitors segment counts, transaction counts, financial balancing and summarizes data elements at this stage.
  4. Situation Testing: When inter-segment dependencies are involved the HT-3 informs the system of whether a particular situation requires a particular code or not.
  5. Code Set Testing: HT-3 validates external codes such as: CPT4,ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, claims status codes, provider taxonomy codes, etc.
  6. Line of Business Testing: HT-3 has the ability to undertake specialized testing, examples are ambulance, chiropractic, podiatry, home healthcare etc.

How can we help you test your Transaction sets?
Sometimes it makes the most sense to allow a third party to test your programs. IGI maintains a staff of experts in the field of ANSI mapping and has many qualified analysts available to assist you in providing the additional service of "end to end" regression testing. Call us today and find out more about the HT-3 and all of our testing services.
